Michelia Messam is Miss Wag Water 2017
Fifteen-year-old Michelia Messam was crowned Miss Wag Water Valley at the Tapioca Village Retreat in Devon Pen, St Mary recently.
The event was hosted by Wag Water Development Committee.
Messam beat four other contestants to secure the title. She copped four sectional prizes on her way to be crowned queen — Best Technical paper, Most Talented, Most Aware and Best Smile.
First runner-up Donique Lewis was adjudged Most Popular while second runner-up Abigail Wright got Best Dressed.
Messam was overjoyed and surprised that she copped some of the sectional prizes.
“I am elated. I had challenges with my talent piece as I am shy. I am kind of surprised I got ‘Best Talent’, but I did my best. Being involved in other competitions before did help me as I knew what to do and what not to do. I expected to win the other sectional prizes because of my previous experience,” she told Jamaica Observer.
She had held the title Miss Devon Pen Primary.
“I am looking forward to my reign and getting some skill-related facilities for the young people and host fund-raising events that will help the mentally challenged people, providing them with food and clothing. The pageant helps the young ladies in the communities as it gives us opportunities to display our talents and gives us some exposure,” she added.
