MANDEVILLE, Manchester —

Past student of the Sacred Heart Academy in Christiana, Jordon Walcott, who earned a place at Manchester High through the recent Grade Six Achievement Test is this year’s recipient of the Chudleigh Path JAS/Wilfred “Jacksie” Reid Scholarship.

Walcott benefitted from $20,000 in cash and school supplies.

A commitment was made for him to receive increased funding up to third form based on his performance in high school.

Organisers say that he was selected from four other students interviewed as a result of his leadership skills at Sacred Heart Academy as deputy head boy, involvement in music, sports and debate, and at church.

The scholarship is to recognise and assist children of the Chudleigh Path Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) members, based in north-eastern Manchester, who have excelled in the Grade Six Achievement Test.

The elderly “Jacksie” Reid, in whose honour the scholarship is named, was an active member of the Chudleigh Path community and with the work of the JAS in the area.

In total, sixteen students, including children from Chudleigh Path Basic School, received back-to-school support in the form of school supplies.

Only Walcott received monetary assistance.

Guest speaker and acting principal of Devon Primary, Nadine Nembhard, encouraged the recipients to be the change that they would like to see in the world.
