Ms Guyana is Miss Global Int’l
MISS Guyana Cynthia Dookie walked away with the Miss Global International 2017 crown at the RIU Montego Bay Hotel in St James on Saturday night.
She won US$1,000, a trip to Dubai, a gift basket from Bute Cosmetics, along with other prizes.
“I am overjoyed and I am grateful that all my hard work and dedication has paid off,” Dookie told Jamaica Observer following the grand coronation.
She also copped two sectional prizes: Best Evening Gown and Most Aware.
First runner-up was Miss San Andre Annie Newball, while Miss Trinidad and Tobago Djennicia Francis secured the second runner-up spot.
Francis also copped two sectional prizes: Talent Queen and Best Smile.
Other sectional winners were: Newball, who was adjudged Best Figure; Miss Jamaica Nastashia Mitchell got Best Costume; while Miss Philippines Jurice Encarnacion walked away with the Most Congenial prize.
Dookie who along with Francis, Mitchell and Newball were clear crowd favourites, said her confidence grew after she got into the top five and was asked what she would make of her stay in Jamaica.
She did not hesitate to declare that she was blown away by the warm hospitality she received since her arrival in the country.
“The type of hospitality and the kindness I received from the people of Jamaica since I arrived in Jamaica at the airport, went into the bus, and at the hotel has been phenomenal. I am so grateful to have experienced that,” she shared.
Dookie, who works at the Audit Office of Guyana and is a personal trainer, revealed plans to use her reign to promote tourism internationally and raise funds for hurricane victims.
“My main goal right now is to create awareness and raise funds to help to rebuild houses devastated by the passage of hurricanes over the last couple of months. I think I have my work cut out to create awareness on the reality of climate change,” she said.
Another highlight of the evening was a dance number by the RIU Montego Bay’s entertainment team which had patrons at the edge of their seats.
Meanwhile, except for a technical glitch, Pageant Director Neelam Ramchandani was satisfied with the event’s staging.
“We got to promote the brand internationally and the feedback was really, really great,” Ramchandani declared.
The pageant was conceptualised by her father, Montego Bay businessman Lachu Ramchandani, 14 years ago.
