Short I sings of Africa
After almost eight years of honing her skills, reggae singer Short I is finally ready with her debut single African’s Repatriation.
The singjay said the song digs deep into her spirituality and a connection with her African roots. She noted that in addition to gaining notoriety for her, she hopes that the song will educate its listeners as it relates to the African culture.
“The song is basically talking about my relationship with the most high. It is very inspirational. I do believe that Africa is our root as our actions are oftentimes similar to that of the African culture,” she stated.
Born Maria Davidson from Crawle Road District in St Catherine, her Rastafari father taught her how to appreciate culture and spirituality. Although she completed a course in clothing at textiles at Above Rocks Heart Trust/NTA, the entertainer said a career in music was never far from her thoughts.
“My parents loved to sing, so they would often sing around the home and as a child it was a pleasure joining them. After four failed audition attempts in the Magnum Kings and Queens I finally got through the fifth season but still didn’t make it to the Live Performance. That was back in 2015,” she said.
That same year a friend of hers by the name of Kuqurune Smith offered to help with her career as a sponsor and another friend introduced her to Mr. Roland McDermott of Tuff Gong International Studio.
“That’s how I got to record and release my first official single,” she said.
In addition to promoting African’s Repatriation which is produced by Roland McDermott, Short I is busy in the recording studios working on her second single World a Confusion.
