Saint Cecelia, regarded as one of the best sprinters to ever grace the racetrack at Caymanas Park, will be honoured tomorrow with the running of the race named in her honour — the $1.15 million Saint Cecelia Cup. The race, an Open Allowance event, is for three-year-olds and upward going six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m).

The Supreme Racing Guide examines the prospects of the nine runners whose owners are searching for vital dollars to ensure participation of their charges in the Diamond Mile race in December.

Prolific Princess —Won well over five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m) on April 19 when coming from behind to beat Polly B and Shining Light in a driving finish. Prolific Princess was next stretched out to nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) in the Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup in an apparent effort to qualify for participation in the Diamond Mile in December, and gave a creditable performance to finish in fourth place behind Brawn. With tomorrow’s distance now more in her favour, look for Prolific Princess to run a capital race here.

Gary Glitter — Has really improved a lot this season. After finishing a distant ninth in the Seek Exercise Book Trophy race over six-and-a half-furlongs (1,300m) on August 26, Gary Glitter rebounded with a good effort on September 8 to finish third by over five lengths behind Chace The Great and Campesino going six furlongs (1,200m). Despite carrying top weight of 57.0 kg (126lb), Gary Glitter should be among the top three with the capable Robert Halledeen in the saddle.

Golden Glory —This chestnut filly is on top of her game right now after winning two very good races in her last two starts, but she is not quite ready for this league. A very tall mountain to climb.

Lottery Ticket — Holding her own to some extent and comes back to the track after a nice break, but little improvement is expected here, even with champion jockey Omar Walker in the irons.

Pinelope — After winning the King’s Plate over seven-and-a-half furlongs (1,500m) on February 25, Pinelope went completely off the boil. In her next four races, the bay filly failed to hit board but was up there in the pace. Pinelope has been working well, and with her potential could give a good account of herself, but is not expected to win.

Choo Choo Blue — One of the most consistent horses in training at the moment, this American-bred filly has had two wins and two second-place finishes from four races this season. In winning the five-and-a half-furlong (1,100m) Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission Trophy, Choo Choo Blue had the talented Buzz Nightmare behind her in what was described as a truly good run. Choo Choo Blue was then beaten by the gifted Chace The Great over tomorrow’s distance in the Seek Exercise Book Trophy, and with her conqueror absent, she will have a lot of supporters. Choo Choo Blue has been training really well, and it will take a brave punter not to support this Cowntown offspring. She can go in front and make every post a winning one, or can sit behind the pace before striking when necessary. Choo Choo Blue is what they call a ‘Five Star’ banker on tomorrow’s programmne.

Dwayne Star — Capable on his day and can hold his own, but Dwayne Star will be testing some seriously deep waters here. He might find it difficult.

Another Bullet — Finished a rather disappointing fifth in the nine-furlong and 25-yard (1,820m) Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup on September 2 behind Brawn, Royal Vibes and Awesome Destiny. Being very versatile, Another Bullet will enjoy every inch of this journey and has a very good chance here. Seems to be the only one in the line-up that can press the favourite straight to the wire.

Crucial Appeal — Getting on in age now but still retains much of his speed. His 56.4 seconds over the-five-furlong (1,000m) straight course on March 4 indicated that he is not yet ready to throw in the towel. Crucial Appeal is somewhat effective going round, but six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m) might be a bit too long for him. However, if left unmolested on the lead, despite carrying top weight of 57.0 kg (126lb), Crucial Appeal is going to cause scary moments for rivals.
