GOSPEL artiste Prodigal Son is set to launch his latest studio album, Pure Gold, with a star-studded concert dubbed Prodigal Son & Friends to be held at Jamaica College on Old Hope Road in St Andrew on October 21.

The event will also celebrate the artiste’s 18 years in the music business. The announcement was made at the event’s media launch at Eden Garden Wellness Resort in St Andrew on Tuesday.

Prodigal Son spoke to the Jamaica Observer about his upcoming sixth studio album.

“The name of the album is taken from the scripture that says the refiner’s fire sits and he purifies. So it’s all the impurities, all the things that I’ve been through, He has purged me and at this point made me pure gold. That’s where the concept came from,” said Prodigal Son.

According to the artiste, the set has 18 tracks — one for each year he’s been in the business. It is produced by Danny Browne of Main Street Records.

“Danny produced all the tracks on the album. This is my best work to date,” he said.

Prodigal Son described Pure Gold as upbeat and relevant. Much like the supporting concert, he partnered with many of his friends such as Chevelle Franklin, Kevin Downswell, and Jason Mighty to share musical duties on several tracks.

“The young people will love it. The older folks will love it. It’s just a wide variety of musical styles. We went in hip hop, reggae, there are some slower songs, but everything that’s on it is geared towards impacting young people, pulling people, and changing lives. It’s just empowerment,” he said.

Prodigal Son expects this album to have the same spiritual impact as his previous work. After the launch concert, he will spend the rest of the year touring in support of Pure Gold.

“I’ll be in South American, Canada, the United States, and we’re fully booked for December.”
