Whitmore calls up 10 local-based players for Saudi Arabia friendly
Jamaica’s senior men’s football team Head Coach Theodore Whitmore has called a mixture of local- and overseas-based players for next Saturday’s friendly international away to 2018 World Cup qualifiers Saudi Arabia, in Riyadh.
Half of the 20-strong unit plays club football on home soil, while the rest ply their trade in North America and Europe.
Jamiel Hardware, who scored on debut against Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain in August, is included.
The young, left-sided attackers Alex Marshall and Chevone Marsh have also earned call-ups.
Goalkeeper Dwayne Miller appears destined to start between the sticks since the outstanding Andre Blake is not included. Another notable absence is the speedy frontman Darren Mattocks. Forward Michael Seaton, who has been out of the Reggae Boyz set-up for some time, is named in the squad.
While Saudi Arabia have booked their ticket to Russia next year, Jamaica failed to reach the final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.
However, the Reggae Boyz did advance to the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer before losing to hosts United States.
Since then, a mostly locally based unit defeated Trinidad 2-1 in a friendly international. That was followed by a 0-2 defeat to Canada in Toronto.
The team is scheduled to depart the island next Monday for the US, where they will be in transit before leaving for Riyadh the following day.
Jamaica squad: Dwayne Miller, Damion Hyatt, Michael Seaton, Ricardo Morris, Ewan Grandison, Ladale Richie, Alex Marshall, Oniel Fisher, Damion Lowe, Romario Williams, Jermaine Taylor, Je-Vaughn Watson, Shaun Francis, Kemar Lawrence, Marvin Morgan, Jamiel Hardware, Devon Williams, Fabian Reid, Rosario Harriott, Chevone Marsh.
