Sentence Reduction Day: Crystal Towers murder accused pleads guilty
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Phillip Brown a short while ago pleaded guilty to killing his pregnant girlfriend at their Crystal Towers Apartment in Kingston last December.
Brown, who appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Circuit Court, was remanded and will be sentenced on December 15.
Last month, Brown’s lawyers tried to obtain a lesser charge of manslaughter, which was rejected by the prosecution.
His counsel eventually told the court that he would take advantage of the Sentence Reduction day, which is now on-going.
Brown was arrested and charged with the murder of 31-year-old Kerry-Ann Wilson, who was reportedly beaten to death and her body found wrapped in a tarpaulin on December 10.
The Sentence Reduction Day initiative provides the platform for individuals to enter a guilty plea and benefit from a maximum of up to 50 per cent reduction in their sentence, according to the provisions of the Criminal Justice Administration Amendment Act, 2015.
