Salt Marsh, Duanvale into KO semi-finals
SALT MARSH, Trelawny — Salt Marsh United and Duanvale FC, losing semi-finalists in last season’s Trelawny Football Association’s Major League, advanced to the semi-finals of the 2017/18 President’s Cup Knockout after contrasting wins on Sunday.
Salt Marsh United beat Friendship FC 7-6 in sudden-death penalty kicks after they had played out a 1-1 regulation and extra time scoreline, while Duanvale FC beat Upsetters 3-0.
Both Salt Marsh United and Duanvale FC will now face last season’s finalists Harmony FC and Coopers Pen in Sunday’s semi-finals.
Salt Marsh gave up a 1-0 lead late in their game after Alwayne Bennett scored in the 57th minute, with Demario Grant equalising for Friendship FC in the 80th.
They failed to add to the score even through extra time and were tied at 5-5 after the first set of penalty kicks. still locked at 6-6, Friendship cracked under the pressure and missed their seventh kick.
Duanvale FC had an easier time in their game with Oshane Brown scoring in the 62nd minute, Anthony Gibbs making it 2-0 in the 70th, with Garfield Henlon adding a third goal in the 80th.
