KINGSTON, Jamaica — A group of Jephthah Ford supporters could be seen outside the court an hour after the judge ruled that the popular medical doctor be sentenced to six months in prison.
Ford was found guilty on two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice after he tried to bribe a police officer to release two Surinamese men who were caught in 2014 with nearly $60 million.
However, he indicated today that he will be filing an appeal, resulting in the judge offering bail in the sum of $1 million, pending the outcome of that appeal.
The hearing, which was expected to be completed last Friday, was delayed until today, after his attorney Bert Samuels indicated that he too wished to take the stand as a character witness.
