After My Beirut ‘s emphatic victory in a maiden special weight event last Saturday, trainer Richard Azan is now contemplating whether or not he should enter the bay colt in the upcoming Pick 3 Super Challenge Trophy.

The Pick 3 Super Challenge Trophy, which is the second leg in the Supreme Ventures Limited Two-Year-Old ‘Triple Crown’ Series, will be run over seven furlongs (1,400m) for a purse of $3.6 million at Caymanas Park on November 25.

My Beirut ( Adore The Gold– Jadore) surrounded rivals at the top of the lane before pulling away to score by over two lengths in a decent 1:07.0 in the five-and-a-half-furlong (1,100m) event.

“He looks so improved and he is a nice colt, but let us see how things go from here. Maybe we will look towards the Pick 3 Super Challenge Trophy next, but let’s see first how things are with him [ My Beirut],” Azan said.

Under the guidance of the red-hot Dick Cardenas, My Beirut was again slowly into stride when the starting gates opened, and had to race off the pace as stable companion Christilano (Phillip Parchment) led ahead of Apollo Bay (Shamaree Muir) and El Profesor (Shane Ellis).

Approaching the final bend, El Profesor challenged Christilano for the lead, with My Beirut gaining ground rapidly, ready to pounce on the leaders at the top of the lane.

In a flash My Beirut swept past the leaders on the outside and powered home to score by two-and-a-half lengths over El Profesor, Christilano and Key Witness (Prince Holder), in that order.

“He [ My Beirut] ran a race before and came in third position and so he has improved from that run, and he came here today (Saturday) and delivered the goods. He worked so good at exercise last week that I decided to enter him in this race and he won, which is good.

“He is a nice horse and he is improving. He looks good in his gallops, and he ran as if he can easily get a distance of ground,” Azan said.
