Herbert Morrison look to maintain unbeaten run in basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending champions Herbert Morrison will host Holland High today in a double-header, as they seek to maintain their 100 per cent win record in the ISSA/Western Conference schoolboy basketball competition.
Herbert Morrison won both games on Monday, hammering St James High 98-8 in the Under-16 section for their third-straight victory, and got a forfeit win over Spot Valley in the Under-19 for a fourth-straight win.
Muschett High will also host York Castle in a double-header in Wakefield, Trelawny today as well.
Cornwall College lead the Under-16 section with eight points from four wins, with Herbert Morrison and York Castle tied for second place on six points while Rhodes Hall and Holland High are on four points each.
Herbert Morrison took over the lead in the Under-19 section with eight points, one more than Cornwall College, followed by York Castle on six points, Holland High on five, and three others tied on four points each.
On Monday, Herbert Morrison overwhelmed St James High in the junior section, winning by 90 points, Kyle Fraser leading the way with 25 points and Kevin Smith and Taj Hewitt both scoring 17 points each in their game at Herbert Morrison.
The home team led 17-2, 39-4 and 65-6 at the end of the first three quarters.
At Holland High, the home team won their first game, beating York Castle 41-30 in the Under-19 game after losing the Under-16 game by three points, 42-45.
Owen Rodney scored a game-high 18 points to lead Holland as they held off York Castle for their first win, leading 12-6, 18-11 but trailing by a point, 19-20, at the end of the third quarter, where they were outscored 9-1 by the St Ann school.
Jaden Bennett scored 12 points to lead York Castle, with Ihajah Clarke getting six points and seven rebounds.
Despite a game-high 24 points from Flawless Travers, Holland High fell in the Under-16 game where York Castle lead 15-12, 29-25 and 33-30 after the first three quarters and held on to win.
Khemar Channer scored 11 points for York Castle and Alex Fang got eight points, while Mario Brown also scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds for Holland.
