Herbert Morrison train keeps rolling in ISSA basketball
WAKEFIELD, Trelawny — Double defending champions Herbert Morrison Technical extended their perfect win record in both sections of the ISSA Western Conference boys’ basketball competition on Friday, beating Muschett High in both games played at Muschett High in Wakefield, Trelawny.
The Under-16 team won their fourth-straight after a 63-45 victory, while the Under-19 team rolled to their fifth-straight, beating Muschett 65-41.
Also on Friday, Rhodes Hall beat Holland High 49-31 in an Under-16 game at Green Pond, while the Under-19 game between Green Pond and Holland High was rained out and will be rescheduled.
At Muschett, Herbert Morrison came back from a slow start, trailing by six points at the end of the first quarter 16-22 to beat the home team by 18 points, outscoring them 47-23 over the last three quarters.
Anthony Thorpe scored 19 points and had nine rebounds to lead Herbert Morrison, while Kevin Smith supported him with 12 points.
Kamani-Daley Clarke had a game-high 27 points for Muschett, while Warren Brooks scored seven points and had five assists.
In the Under-19 contest, three players — Alex Gilchrist, David Gordon and Brendan Dawkins — combined for 47 points as Herbert Morrison led from start to finish in their 24-point margin victory.
Gilchrist scored 18 points and grabbed 26 rebounds, Gordon had 16 points and 22 rebounds as well as seven blocks, and Dawkins scored 13 points for the Montego Bay school who led 18-9, 33-17 and 49-36 after the first three quarters,
Akile Guthrie led Muschett with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Michael Tomlinson scored seven points and had eight rebounds for Muschett.
At Green Pond, Rhodes Hall had a big second half, scoring 36 points after being held to 13 in the first half, and trailed Holland High by seven points at the half-time break to score a come-from-behind win.
Javani Davis led the way with a game-high 31 points, while Davanie McPherson scored eight points and had 13 rebounds and five blocked shots.
Flawless Travers scored 14 points and had nine rebounds for Holland High, while Mario Brown scored six points and had 15 rebounds.
