HOMEOWNERS and business operators seeking to learn more about solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are being encouraged to attend the Wigton Renewable Energy Training Lab’s one-day Solar PV Sensitization Forum on November 25.

It will be held at the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) Auditorium in Kingston.

According to a release, while the course curriculum has been designed to provide value for PV suppliers and installers, the material will be delivered in a format that can be easily understood by consumers who may be considering an investment in solar energy, or current PV owners seeking to get the most out of their system.

The release said the training will also be of interest to energy enthusiasts, educators and students who are looking to increase their knowledge of solar energy.

Participants will learn about the factors to consider from purchase to installation, how to determine if a site is suitable for a solar PV system and how to optimise a system’s output to enable purchasers and installers to have realistic expectations, the release continued.

The course will also look at system components, operation and maintenance to help consumers get the most out of their investment, the release said.

“The use of solar PV systems as an approach to lessen high electricity bills has become a growing trend. We want to build consumer awareness by increasing their knowledge of renewable energy implementation so that their decisions are based on sound knowledge. This will help consumers to plan for realistic expectations when they make an investment in a solar PV system and give them an understanding of how to measure its efficiency,” Wigton Windfarm Limited General Manager Earl Barrett is quoted as saying in the release.

The course costs $10,000.
