PM endorses National Day of Fasting, Prayer and Repentance
KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — Prime Minister Andrew Holness, has endorsed the National Day of Fasting, Prayer and Repentance organised by the Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches.
Speaking at a press conference at the Office of the Prime Minister in St Andrew on yesterday, Holness said his job as leader and head of Government is to support the work of the church it its national calls.
“I am endorsing this call… . It is something that I take seriously, and I know that it will have an impact. I know that God will intervene in our affairs and turn the direction in which we are heading,” he noted.
The event will be held in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, on December 2, and in Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay, on December 3. Church leaders will guide the activities, which will get under way at 7:00 pm on both days.
Holness said God will continue to “guard us with his mighty hand… and we fervently ask for His intervention”.
He implored Jamaicans to pray in their homes, workplaces and in public spaces.
Other speakers at the event included Minister of Culture, Gender, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange; Opposition Spokesman on Finance and Planning, Mark Golding, who represented the Leader of the Opposition, Dr Peter Phillips; and the Reverend Jeffrey Shuttleworth, who represented the organising group.
