Portland murder accused allegedly commits suicide
ST ANN, Jamaica — A Portland man who was wanted by police for allegedly stabbing another man to death, is suspected to have committed suicide.
He has been identified as Garfield McDonald, a taxi driver and former employee of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).
According to reports, McDonald had gone to visit family members in St Ann. A relative found him hanging by the neck from a belt on a mango tree shortly after 10:00 am.
The police earlier reported that McDonald stabbed a man, known only as ‘Kadi’, at Prospect in Portland shortly after 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon and fled the area in his car.
It was also reported that a relative had made arrangements for McDonald to surrender in the presence of a minister of religion, but did not turn up. That’s when they went in search of him and found his body hanging.
