Fayrouz continues her development
As this year’s two-year-old season continues to unfold, trainer Anthony Nunes, the leader in the juvenile section with Patriarch – who has already won both legs of the Supreme Ventures Two-Year-Old Triple Crown races this season – produced another aspirant in Fayrouz, who after some traffic issues won a five-and-a-half furlong (1,100m) maiden event to set off her career. Fayrouz, the Blue Pepsi Lodge bred chestnut filly, won by only three parts of a length.
Notwithstanding, had she not been hindered when running against the inside rails in the drive for the wire, Fayrouz would have won by a wider margin.
However, a win is a win, and she had it looking convincingly ahead of El Profesor, Lici’s Pepsi and Yaya’s Dream in that order in a time of 1:07.2.
After the race, Nunes said that he was very pleased with the filly’s performance and that she is still on the improve.
“I am quite pleased with her performance. Had she not received such a rough trip on the inside rails she would have had it a little easier,” Nunes declared shortly after the race.
Looking at the prospects of his filly, a hopeful Nunes said that his charge is now coming into her own.
“I think that she’s a nice filly, and with normal improvement there is the prospect that she is going to be better than average and could go a long way in distinguishing herself among other aspirants.
“Nonetheless, it is still too early to predict anything substantial, but I think that she will get a little distance of ground. This is not to say that she will get 10 and 12 furlongs, but she will certainly get a mile,” Nunes said.
