Wide open affair in Andrew H B Aguilar Memorial
The two-year-old season continues to unfold with the running of the $900,000 Andrew HB Aguilar Memorial Cup, a maiden special weight event to be run over a mile (1,600m).
This native-bred two-year-old event should be a close affair as some of horses are just finding their way in their respective careers.
While it is going to be difficult to find the winner, the Supreme Racing Guide offers the following analysis for its readers.
GRANITE – Disappointed in his two races to date but should be a bit more competitive in this one. Granite might well prefer a distance of ground and with Dane Nelson being called up to do riding duties is expected to fight out the finish despite a quick turn around having raced just last week Saturday.
VIKUNA – Will be running for the first time. Vikuna has been training quite well and with nothing special in the line-up can get off the mark. This is the first offspring of the stallion American Dancer to race and as a result Vikuna will be watched very closely. Let’s hope things go the ‘right’ way.
HOT ICE – Finished in the ruck on last but might get a little closer among these. Races with the Figure 8 for the first time.
RISING AFFAIR – Finished sixth on debut but way behind Greek Goddess and Marquesas with the latter going on to win a maiden event. Races tomorrow with the tongue tie and first time Lasix. Maybe be a bit more competitive in this one.
FLASHAWAY – Fifth on debut and even with the Figure 8 on should find it difficult dealing with these rivals as time will be needed to get up to speed.
ROYAL AVAITOR – Finished fourth and debut over seven furlongs but was seemingly losing ground in the last furlong of that race. With an extra furlong to race here might just be stretched but with the two-year-olds it is always difficult to judge.
DADDY’S DILEMMA – Highly fancied on debut but finished down the track behind Storm Born just seven days ago. Daddy’s Dilemma should be fitter for this one and with that run under her girth, should get into the mix of things now.
TIMETOSAYGOODBYE – One of the more experienced in the field and that is the only thing that he has over the other runners. You can say goodbye from now even with the visor off and the tongue tie on.
STACYSLADY – Has yet to show anything from two starts. After this race, Stacyslady will still be a maiden.
FREE MARIE – Finished third behind Storm Born and Luci’s Pepsi on last (November 25) going six furlongs (1,200m). Free Marie has been prominent in all her races to date, finishing in the top four on all four occasions she has raced and should do the same here. Given her consistency and a more relaxed pace now, Free Marie is tipped to have a grand chance of releasing the maiden tag.
