There will be no paucity of sprinting on the Jamaica Racehorse Trainers’ Association (JRTA) Race Day at Caymanas Park today highlighted by the Dye Job Sprint.

The Dye Job, a Restricted Stakes event for native-bred and imported two-year-olds, will go six furlongs (1,200m) for a purse of $980,000 and has attracted a field of eight runners. The event is scheduled to go to post at approximately 1:40 pm with the first post at 11:30 am.

With two legs of the Two-Year-Old Triple Crown series completed, this field is packed with Classic aspirants and should add significantly to the field for one third and final legs of the series to be run on Boxing Day.

In the line-up, trainer Anthony Nunes has two of his juveniles to decide the outcome by the presence of fillies Isinbayeva and Esperanza.

Esperanza looks a good future prospect for the fillies Guineas and should give a good show over the shorter distance today with the minimum of fuss being from the Classic winning mare It Is I and the stallion, Legal Process.

Dick Cardenas, who won on debut with the filly, returns to the saddle and with lasix applied and could return to her winning ways after going down to stablemate Patriarch and Brandy the second time of asking.

Also in the line-up is the bay colt Marquesas. Marquesas showed on last that he is much better suited to the longer trip and having already won going seven furlongs (1,400m), he should be at home among these over the shorter trip.

Marquesas, bred by Franz Jobson and trained by Michael Marlowe for owners Epic Group, has never been worse than second in his three starts to date and with Shane Ellis, who rode the Coded Warning bay colt to his first win on last remaining the irons, should to be in contention where it matters most.

My Beirut is another colt that has shown worthwhile ability from the stables of Richard Azan, but from three starts, he has been slow into stride at the break on every occasion.

However, for his fourth run trainer Azan has called in premier jockey Dane Nelson to pilot the colt who could kick the habit and take a strong hand in the finish.

The Philip Feanny-trained late entry Storm Born running for the first time showed grit and determination in putting away a maiden special weight field on last going over today’s distance.

Looking as sharp as she did two weeks ago, Storm Born is, however, up against a more experienced set of juveniles, but should not be far away at the end if properly ridden, having gone 1:13.3 on debut. This is a tougher field of runners and Feanny, taking no chances, has called upon top lightweight jockey Wesley “Calalloo” Henry to pilot the speedy filly.

Oneil Mullings, who took Storm Born to a fine victory on debut, has moved over to another filly, Brandy, trained by Wayne DaCosta. This looks a good one in the making and despite the presence of Marquesas in the line-up, her final rattle should get home in time for supper.

A very useful-looking chestnut filly by Hestherealthing out of the Slew City Slew mare Skittle Queen bred by Eleanor Palmer and Louis Parmer and owned by Elizabeth DaCosta, Brandy showed on last that hadn’t she been baulked against the rail in the stretch drive during the running of the Pick3 Super Challenge Trophy, she could have been much closer to Patriarch. Quite a promising one in the making, from three career starts Brandy has won once with a second and a third placed finish. She has once again worked well for this challenge and could continue to improve on her placings.

Azaria, another filly who won over this trip on debut and continues to look well in her preparations for another telling bid and with lasix now applied could come running on to make it a sizzling affair in the drive for the wire.

Also on the 11-race programme are the Seymour “Foggy” Mullings Memorial OJ, CD Trophy, the Jamaica Racehorse Trainers’ Association Trophy in two sections and the Andrew HB Aguilar Memorial Cup.
