‘Craft your desires’
NEARLY 30 craft Producers are expected to showcase their handmade and unique items at the Kingston leg of the Tourism Product Development Company Limited (TPDCo) Craft Fair.
Set for Friday, December 15, at the Ministry of Tourism Breezeway in New Kingston, the event will be guided by the theme ‘Craft Your Desires’.
A recent release said the staging of the fair was designed specifically by the Craft Unit of the organisation to highlight the work of local craft producers, giving attendees a sample of the diverse offerings within the craft industry.
The outdoor setting will facilitate interactions between the craft producers and local and international buyers, who will also gain extensive information about the craft industry and its significance to the tourism sector, the release continued. These include destination promotion and improving the Jamaican brand image, job creation and economic investment.
“Patrons will be able to view and purchase items from expert craft producers as well as trainees from a recent session in calabash, tie-dye and stone and bottle painting,” the release said. “Other product offerings will include straw products, ceramics, and jewellery, amongst others. Entertainment will be provided by the one man band: Mr Dennisford Salmon.”
The release said, too, that to complement the Jamaican theme of the fair, patrons will be treated to cultural items, entertainment and traditional foods.
