Jamaica’s young swimmers continued to impress all and sundry at the Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ASATT) Invitational Championships when they produced a series of dominant displays to improve their tally to 27 medals at the National Aquatic Centre in Couva.

The Jamaicans, who opened their campaign with 10 medals, enjoyed a haul of eight medals, including four gold on Friday’s second day, before adding a further nine medals during the morning session on the third day of action yesterday.

With that, the 26-member team has now taken their haul to five gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze medals, already surpassing last year’s haul of 19 medals with yesterday’s evening session and a full day of action today still left to go.

Y-Speedos Swim Club, which boast the largest number of participants of the four Jamaican clubs on show, continue to show just that, as they have so far accounted for 18 of the medals won, with Kaizen accounting for five, three of which are gold.

Marlins Swim Club is responsible for four, while the two-member Sailfish Swim Club team has produced some creditable performances but is yet to hit the board.

Yesterday’s morning session started brightly for the Jamaicans when Y-Speedos representative Chester Adams clocked 5:22.81 minutes for second in the boys’ 15 and over 400-metre individual medley (IM), behind Ezekiel Wilson (5:19.58).

Kokolo Foster of Marlins Swim Club then claimed bronze in the girls’ 9-10 200m freestyle in 2:41.68 minutes, just edging compatriot and teammate Saidah Brown (2:42.78) behind Amelia Rajack, who won in 2:31.09 minutes.

Naomi Eaton of Y-Speedos then copped the first of her two silver medals of the session in the girls’ 13-14 200m freestyle in 2:18.12 minutes behind winner Jada Chatoor (2:15.42).

Kyle Sinclair followed suit in the boys’ 13-14 200m freestyle finishing third in a time of 2:07.86 minutes behind winner Aqeel Joseph (2:05.11).

However, the first gold of the day came courtesy of Kaizen’s representative Zaneta Alvaranga, who romped to victory in the girls’ 11-12 800m freestyle in a time of 11:11.78 minutes, bettering the ATLA pair of Sharana Balkaran (11:29.99) and Soriyha Alfonso (12:08.50).

Eaton then finished second in the girls’ 13-14 800m freestyle in 10:24.70 minutes, once again finding Chatoor (9:46.62) in her way at the end, while Sinclair claimed another bronze in the boys’ 13-14 event in 9:46.50 minutes.

His sister, Sage Sinclair, also of Y-Speedos, was third in the girls’ 15 and over 800m freestyle, clocking 10:48.81 minutes behind Sabrina David (10:26.15).

Another Y-Speedos swimmer, Jordane Payne, brought the curtains down on the morning session with a bronze medal finish in the boys’ 15 and over 800m freestyle in 9:42.80 minutes.

Earlier, the Jamaicans enjoyed what could be considered their most successful run in terms of medal quality on Friday’s second day of action.

Alvaranga led the way with two in the girls’ 11-12 100m freestyle in 1:01.66 minutes and the 50m butterfly with a brisk time of 28.99 seconds.

Akeem Alleyne of Y-Speedos claimed gold in the boys’ 13-14 200m breaststroke in a time of 2:45.42 minutes, while Karci Gibson, also of Y-Speedos, mined the other gold in the girls’ 13-14 200m breaststroke in 3:13.32 minutes.

Kyle Sinclair won silver in the boys’ 13-14 100m freestyle in a flat 55 seconds, with Saidah Brown of Marlins copping bronze in the girls’ 9-10 100m freestyle in 1:09.94 minutes.

Naomi Eaton had earlier claimed silver in the 100m freestyle in 1:01.39 minutes and bronze in the 50m butterfly in 31.23 seconds.
