Boys’ Town, Humble Lion split points
Sitting at the foot of the 12-team Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) points table for some time now without gaining a point, Boys’ Town FC broke the lean spell of poor performances with a hard-earned 1-1 draw against 10th-placed Humble Lion FC, at Barbican playing field on Sunday.
The win inched Boys’ Town to 12 points, still at the foot of the table, while Humble Lion remained in 10th place on 21 points.
The game got off to a promising start for both teams but it was Humble Lion who took the lead in the 22nd minute from a Stephen Williams strike. Boys’ Town failed to smell the coffee and Humble Lion continued to probe, but the score remained unchanged until the teams changed ends when second-half substitute Bebeto McDonald levelled the score in the dying moments of the game.
“It was again a tale of two halves. I thought we dominated more in the second half than we did in the first. The first half we had good territorial advantage but gave up a goal from a defensive error before going to the break trailing but expectant. At the half-time break I apprised the team of the bleakness of the situation and I thought we returned more focused and committed. I also thought that we put in a sterling display,” said Andrew Price, head coach of Boys’ Town.
He added: “Some strategic changes were made that assisted the team. We brought in some fresh legs and this gave us some momentum, some width and numbers up front by moving from a 5-3-2 formation to a 4-3-3 system, to try to press home the advantage.
“We were unfortunate not to get a goal that was called back. It seemed, from my vantage point, that the ball crossed the line, but we gave the benefit of the doubt to the referee.”
