Silent Ravers gets Flairy
AT Saturday’s Shaggy and Friends concert, Ding Dong used his set to introduce emerging choreographer Silent Ravers and his new move dubbed Flairy.
“Ever since I did the video last July showing the dance, the response has been crazy. People love it and any party we go and do the dance it creates a buzz,” said the 22-year-old, whose given name is Taje Pinnock.
The dance is usually accompanied by Ding Dong’s track of the same name.
“I’ve been saying flairy from the start of last year. We don’t use ‘look good’ or ‘look nice’ again — we say you look flairy. One day mi link mi breddin and seh mi a go mek the dance but the way I did it, the move was at 50 per cent; it needed something more, so mi find two more variations,” he said.
Though he is happy with its reception, Silent Ravers also spoke of the challenges of having a popular dance.
“There are a lot of dancehall thief; dem thief the dancehall moves and act like they created it. There’s this group that remixed the dance and add different variations. But we don’t let that bother us, Jamaican people see seh a we do it.”
A graduate of Cumberland High School, Silent Ravers joined Ravers Clavers four years ago after moving from Cockburn Pen to Nannyville Gardens in Kingston.
“I’ve always wanted to be a dancer. I grew up looking up to Bogle, but to tell you the truth if Bogle did alive him would be in problems cause we have a lot of young dancers now doing dem ting. I put myself out there and I do it for the love and for my mother. I know 2018 is gonna be epic,” he said.
He said he is preparing for a Canadian tour come February.
