With no trophy race being offered, the top-rated Open Allowance event for three-year-olds and upward going six furlongs (1,200m) should ignite some sparks on today’s 10-race programme at Caymanas Park.

Seven runners will face the starter, with almost all having a decent chance of copping the prize money of $1.15 million. The race which is slotted as the fifth event will go to post at 2:15 pm, with the first race scheduled at noon.

The horse they all have to best in this competitive line-up is the Richard Azan-trained Money Magnet, with stiff fight expected from Siempre Bueno and Soy El Senor from the barn of Anthony Nunes, as well as Little Big Horn, trained by Neive Graham and Sir Budget, who comes from the stables of Michael Beecham. The other two runners — Shining Light and Simply The Best — will play their part without actually having an impact on the outcome of the race.

Money Magnet ( Nuclear Wayne — Jazzy Jet) was just beaten on last by Zephyr and Siempre Bueno, during the recent St Catherine Cup over five and a half furlongs (1,100m) in a decent 1:05.2. Prior to that run, Money Magnet had Siempre Bueno eight lengths behind her in a six-furlong (1,200m) dash when beating Orpheus and Another Bullet in a good 1:11.3 minutes.

A reproduction of that effort will see Money Magnet being unsaddled in the winners’ enclosure when the race is over. Shane Ellis will replace Dick Cardenas in the saddle. Cardenas, however, has climbed over on Siempre Bueno, replacing the bustling Dane Nelson.

Siempre Bueno ran a blinder on last when going over a mile (1,600m), leading for most of the way until giving way inside the last 150m to finish fourth. With his class and speed, he should give the filly most to do here.

Both Little Big Horn, who was a winner on last at five and a half furlongs (1,100m) in a decent 1:05.3 minutes, and Sir Budget, who is known for speed and more speed, will do their work on the lead, while Siempre Bueno‘s stable companion Soy El Senor will be coming from behind.

Soy El Senor will not find this distance too short and could get there in the nick of time should the leaders run themselves into the ground. However, Money Magnet should stalk her rivals close from off the pace and go by in deep stretch.

Also carded is an Overnight Allowance event going over the five-furlong (1,000m) straight course, and this should draw some attention as well. The likely runners to battle out this $1-million event are Polly B, Dysfuctional, Ras Emanuel, Cartel, Gary Glitter and Princess Emanuelle.

Jamaica’s most successful female rider, Georgina Sergeon makes another comeback to competitive race riding after being out of the saddle for nearly three years. Sergeon, who has 59 winners under her belt, will be aboard Sweet Peppa in the first race for Azan.
