I Atom makes the Ganja Call
I Atom is generating a huge buzz with her single Ganja Call , which features high-flying dancehall act Capleton.
Released on the Virtuous Voice Production label on January 7, the single stresses the medicinal qualities and healing powers of the marijuana plant.
“I did my version of the song first and I went to him to do a collaboration. And he listened to the riddim and liked it, and he wrote and recorded his verse to the riddim same time. It was a spiritual connection (between her and Capleton). I just prayed about it and went up to David House to ask him to collaborate with me on the ganja song, but I didn’t believe it would happen because he is a veteran and his expectation is very high. So when I hear it on the radio I feel overjoyed and blessed that this collaboration is a reality,” said I Atom.
“The marijuana plant is very powerful and this song is not only to entertain and educate the public about the many medicinal uses of this great plant,” the singjay continued.
She said she appreciates Capleton’s mentorship and guidance.
“I appreciate this collaboration song so much. Capleton is a person who I look up to for advice and I’m so grateful for what he did. I consider myself blessed and highly favoured to have this great father-daughter relationship with King Shango’,” she said.
Two years ago, I Atom (given name Careen Hanchard) walked away from her job as an agricultural extension officer in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and entered the music industry.
Born in the Nine Miles area of St Ann, she attended Ferncourt High before matriculating to the College of Agricultural Science and Education, where she read for a degree in agricultural science.
This set her on the path to pursue a music career as a gospel and cultural reggae artiste.
“I have a lot of work to do in 2018 and beyond,” she said.
