Former female inmate accused of knocking out woman’s teeth in prison
A former prisoner was taken before the court for reportedly punching out a woman’s teeth at the Fort Augusta Adult Correctional Centre during a dispute last December.
Simone James, a 38-year-old resident of Montego Bay in St James was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm following an incident, on December 6 of last year, that resulted in the complainant losing an upper incisor tooth.
Friday when the matter was mentioned the complainant told the court that she wishes to be compensated and Parish Judge Broderick Smith suggested that they go to mediation. Both women, who are no longer inmates, accepted.
Their matter was referred to the Disputes Resolution Foundation for mediation and a mention date was scheduled for them to return to court on July 4.
According to the police report, on the day, the two were involved in a dispute when James punched the complainant in her mouth, causing bleeding and the loss of one tooth.
The incident reportedly arose after James accused the complainant of carrying news to a correctional officer.
However, when James was cautioned by the police she reportedly said: “Officer, me and she have a relationshi. We a sex, me no punch are inna har mouth.”
