Another multi-million dollar ‘fake’ goods bust
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Over $100 million worth of counterfeit goods were seized during an operation at two businesses that sell clothes and shoes on Barry Street in downtown Kingston this morning.
Detectives from the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) swooped down on the establishments about 11:00 am seizing brands such as Nike, Louis Vuitton and Adidas.
Two Chinese nationals were subsequently taken into custody and are expected to be charged under the Consumer Protection Act, the Trademark Act and the Customs Act.
Today’s arrests follow a similar operation in the area earlier this month, when counterfeit goods valued more than $300 million were seized.
Six Chinese nationals — five men and a woman — were taken into custody during that operation on April 4.
