I Waata introduces new move

DANCEHALL music has spawned its fair share of dance moves, including Bogle, Sweep, Willie Bounce, and Fling Yuh Shoulda.

Emerging singjay I Waata said he is adding another, Pat A Shake, to that list. He has a single by the same name.

“It is a new dance that the kids dem really love. Anywhere me and mi dancer perform the song, ah murda,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Pat A Shake was released in January. It is produced by Boyzie Records.

“A dancer in my community came up with the dance move. It looks good, so I thought I would highlight it. Social media-wise, it is getting a lot of traction… it really a gwaan wid a bag a tings ‘pon di road,” he said.

Plans for an accompanying music video is in the works.

I Waata (given name Jason Bailey) hails from the Kintyre community in Kingston. He fell in love with music while attending Papine High School.

According to I Waata, he recorded his first single in 2008. However, it went nowhere. Unfazed, he continued to work on his craft. His big break came when opened Sting 2014 in Portmore, St Catherine, and he hasn’t looked back since.

“I am influenced by Vybz Kartel’s work ethic and creativity. But mi pick a page out of every artiste book and put them in my catalogue so that I can be a complete artiste,” he said.

I Waata’s other tracks include Thick Thick, Launch An Attack, and Wanna Be Gyalis.
