Will Fayrouz run in the Lotto Classic?
Although he was not present to witness in person the victory run of his filly Fayrouz in the 10-furlong Jamaica Oaks at Caymanas Park on Saturday last, trainer Anthony Nunes is glowing like never before.
“I was away attending my daughter’s graduation and could not be at the track on Saturday. I have seen the race and at last Fayrouz showed us all what she is truly capable of, and for that I am really happy for the team that made it possible,” a bubbly Nunes said.
Nunes, after taking off the visor in Fayrouz’s last two runs before the Oaks, refitted the equipment for Saturday’s effort.
Did it make a difference?
“Put it this way, when she won her first race, she won with the visor. Then came some below-par performances without the visor, and then in the Oaks with the visor on again, she ( Fayrouz) produced her best run yet. So, it is only fair to say that when she has on the visor it does makes a difference,” Nunes reasoned.
When asked what is next for his charge, Nunes answered cautiously.
“I have been taking a good look at the races available. There is the option of the Lotto Classic, which is the same distance as the Oaks (10 furlongs), but truth be told, I have not made a final decision as yet, whether or not Fayrouz will run in the Lotto Classic.
“I have to take into consideration that she has just run 10 furlongs. Then if she runs in the Lotto Classic at the end of this month, it is another 10 furlongs, and just three weeks later there is the Derby which is 12-furlongs. Thirty-two furlongs in basically seven weeks is difficult for a filly.
“That is my main consideration at this time, but I along with the team will make a decision in short order,” Nunes assured.
