Catch Siempre Bueno in Reggae Trophy
With two trophy races on the 11-race programme scheduled for tomorrow at Caymanas Park, the Reggae Trophy, a five-furlong-straight encounter for Grade One horses is the obvious feature over the six-furlong Jamaica Racehorse Trainers’ Association Trophy.
Seven horses, including established stars like Seeking My Dream and Chace The Great and newcomers such as Money Magnet and Mr Universe will do battle down the straight.
The Supreme Racing Guide looks at the seven runners in this year’s Reggae Trophy in post position order.
1 – SEEKING MY DREAM: (6-ch-h- Seeking The Glory – Alsafra) – Despite his many health afflictions, Seeking My Dream has been doing quite well this season with a win and two second-place finishes thus far from three starts. Coming out of the number one stall in this one should not be a major discomfort for Seeking My Dream as only seven face the starter. Seeking My Dream’s last run down the chute was on in July of 2017 when he was on the comeback trail. Then he finished second behind Campesino, finishing fast. Not without a chance but has to be at the top of his game.
2 – CHACE THE GREAT: (5-ch-g-m – Greatness – Our Miss Ruth) – The reigning sprint champion is still searching for a win in 2018, although he has been in good form with two second-place finishes and a third from three starts. He has not raced over the five straight for a while but is not uncomfortable with the distance. Chace The Great is looking good in the mornings and now has a great opportunity of renewing his acquaintance with the winners’ enclosure.
3 – MR UNIVERSE: (4-ch-c- Region of Merit – Raging Fury) – The youngest of the lot in this race. This new kid on the block has been burning up the track in recent times, winning three of his last four races. Tried his luck against the big ones in the Lotto Sprint (5 1/2 furlongs), but saw the tails of She’s A Maneater, Sir Budget and Chace The Great. Mr Universe won over the five straight on May 18 recording a fast 58.1 seconds but that was at the Overnight Allowance level. Fast and itching for more success but has to wait some more.
4 – MONEY MAGNET: (4-ch-f- Nuclear Wayne – Jazzy Jet) – Has been venturing over varying distances of late, with tomorrow’s five straight offering a mouth-watering opportunity for her to return to winning ways. Money Magnet is consistent and talented and is going to be there when this race is being decided.
5 – PERFECT NEIGHBOUR: (8-dkb-g- Natural Selection – Desperatehousewife) – Obviously prepping for races to come.
6 – SIEMPRE BUENO: (6-ch-h- Market Rally – La Reina) – A speed merchant who was out of place going 7 ½ furlongs against the likes of Will In Charge and Seeking My Dream on last. Seems to really enjoy the five straight, as on March 7 Siempre Bueno scorched the trip with more weight in a rousing 57.3 seconds. Drawn on the outside with the ‘in front’ master Wesley Henry in the saddle, Siempre Bueno will have to be caught, as this is the perfect trip with the perfect rider.
7 – CAMPESINO: (8-b-g- Compadre – Yaella) – Still trying to find himself after a long lay-off.
