Slightly Stoopid tops Billboard
With sales of 8,194 copies sold in its first week of release, Everyday Life, Everyday People by Slightly Stoopid debuts at number one on the Billboard Reggae Album chart. It is the veteran California band’s first time on the reggae table.
Everyday Life, Everyday People is the group’s ninth studio album. It features 13 tracks including songs with Jamaican artistes Don Carlos and Yellowman, Italian singer Alborosie, blues/hip hop singer G Love, and Ali Campbell of UB40 fame. It was released on July 13 by their Stoopid Records.
Akae Beka, a roots-reggae band from St Croix in the United States Virgin Islands, scores its fifth title on the chart with Nurtured Frequency, which opened at number eight. The 11-track set was released July 13 by Haze St Studios, with 102 copies sold.
The band’s previous Billboard titles were 2015’s Homage to The Land which peaked at number 12; Portals (number eight) and Livicated (number six), both of which were released in 2016; and Jahsaydo, which climbed to number six in 2017.
Last week’s number one, 44/876 by Sting and Shaggy, falls to number two with an additional 831 copies sold, bringing its total to 39,750 copies.
Free Rein, a former number one by Rebelution, is number three despite selling another 818 copies. To date, it has sold 14,315 copies.
Moving up one spot to number four is Iration with its self-titled set, which sold 295 copies. Reggae Forever by Etana inches up to number five, selling 182 copies, a slight increase over the 171 it sold the previous week.
Ziggy Marley’s Rebellion Rises falls to number six with 132 copies for a total of 6,722. Protoje’s A Matter of Time falls from three to seven with 130 copies, after registering 455 copies the week before. To date, it has sold 2,493.
Damian Marley’s Stony Hill holds steady at number nine with 93 copies, up from 83 the week before. The Grammy-winning set has sold 21,257 since its release in July 2017.
After peaking at number six three weeks ago, Unbreakable: Alborosie Meets the Wailers United by Alborosie re-enters the top 10, moving up two spots from last week’s number 12. It sold an additional 91 copies to bring its tally to 494 after three weeks.
