UPDATE: Dream Weekend director regrets loss of life at party
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Dream Weekend Director Kamal Bankay has expressed regret at the death of a patron this morning at the Dream Weekend party in Negril.
The dead man has been identified as Jean Mathiew, 37, of Millsborough Crescent in Kingston and Montreal, Canada.
According to the Corporate Communications Unit, the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) information arm, Mathiew was shot by a security guard during a dispute at Cayenne Beach in Negril. The incident occurred at 3:15 am. Two firearms were seized by the police after the shooting.

The security guard is not in custody.
“We believe any incident like this is unfortunate… We regret the loss of life. It is important to note, that our security officers at Dream Weekend are courteous and professional, and are overseen and guided by the advice of the JCF. We wish patrons to continue having a safe party weekend,” Bankay told the OBSERVER ONLINE.
