KINGSTON, Jamaica — Three persons will be awarded for their act of courage and heroism in ensuring the safety of the residents at the Walker’s Place of Safety in Kingston after fire gutted the premises and killed two children in January.
The two children killed were 12-year-old Oneika McGrae and Anna Kaye Moreland who were both staying at the home.
Grace Allen, Kimani Anderson and Selana Reid will all receive their Badge of Honour for their joint effort in rescuing those trapped by the fire at the premises.
The award is to be presented on Heroes’ Day on October 15, 2018.
The Walker’s Place of Safety was in operation for over 45 years, and was home to children ages two to 18 years, who have been abandoned or removed from their homes because of unstable conditions.
