Good hair day!
Dear Editor,
The National Parent-Teacher Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ) is very pleased to see the courts allowing one of our children to pursue their education unhindered in the recent court ruling on dreadlocks at Kensington Primary School.
The process will continue and we certainly hope to see more defence of the constitutional rights of individuals being upheld.
The practice of creating school policies that sometimes do not consider the rights of individuals should be addressed and, as a body that covers the interest of all stakeholders (school/home and child), we will seek to assist the process.
We applaud the intervention of Jamaicans For Justice as well as the courts for their due diligence. It is our desire to see more involved parents in the education and social development of their children, and this is a milestone accomplishment in seeing this hope become reality.
We will seek audience with the parent-teacher association of Kensington Primary and the school as we continue to monitor the situation.
God’s blessings.
