PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti (CMC) — The National Police of Haiti (PNH) has announced a clamp-down on night-time activities throughout the French-speaking Caribbean Community country in a bid to ensure the safety of the local population and foreigners as the “summer season” comes to an end.

The PNH said Monday that it had launched operation “Boukle Lari a” and that more than 3,000 police officers have been mobilised so as to ensure the safety of the population and tourists during the last two weeks of the summer season.

Newly appointed PNH spokesperson, Michel Ange Louis Jeunes said Boukle Lari a aims to reinforce police presence in the streets and get closer to the population.

The PNH said in order to ensure public order and peace, it has decided to limit night-time activities throughout the country.

Chief of Cabinet of the Departmental Director of the West, Jean Ismane Auguste said during the period Monday to Friday, night activities will end at 10:00 pm (local time) and on weekends at midnight.

He warned that offenders will face the brunt of the law.

Meanwhile, the PNH has sent condolences to the family of police officer Peterson Raymon, who was killed last week during a police operation. It gave no details.
