Owner/breeder Dr Francis Barnett passes on
It is with deep regret that the Supreme Racing Guide has learnt of the recent passing of owner/breeder and dedicated horseman, Dr Francis Barnett.
Barnett was a fixture at the racetrack for many years with his ever-present binoculars around his neck. A medical practitioner by profession, Dr Barnett was part of the Classic winning FLAME SYNDICATE.
It was in 1999 that members of the FLAME SYNDICATE watched with enormous pride as their filly, Good Prospect ( Texas Prospector – Good Conduct) trained by Wayne DaCosta won the Jamaica Oaks (10-furlongs), then the ultimate racing prize – the Jamaica Derby (12-furlongs) and to top off a great Classic season, the Jamaica St Leger (10-furlongs). In all three races, Good Prospect was ridden by Andrew Ramgeet.
Then in 2000 came more Classic success for Barnett and the FLAME SYNDICATE when Ray Of Hope ( Star Attitude – Bag Of Gold) completed the slate of Triple Crown races for the owners by winning the 1000 Guineas. Ray Of Hope was trained by Andrew Nunes and ridden in the 1000 by Shane Ellis.
‘Doc’ as he was called by many, was also a part owner of Classy Prospect ( Saint Appeal – Good Prospect). Classy Prospect for a long while competed in Grade One company with distinction.
The Supreme Racing Guide offers its deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of Dr Francis Barnett who practiced his medical craft mainly in Brown’s Town, St Ann and Portmore in St Catherine.
