IN his over 60 years as a singer and actor, Clarence “Count Prince” Miller made a lot of friends, especially in the United Kingdom (UK) where he lived for most of his life.

Many of them turned out at Holy Trinity Church in London on September 4 to remember the jocular entertainer who died on August 16 in London at age 84.

They included singers Winston Francis, A J Franklin (of the Chosen Few) and Jimmy James. The last, one of Miller’s closest friends, was among those who recalled his sense of humour and benevolence.

A message from Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange was read by George Ramocan, Jamaica’s high commissioner to the UK.

Also saluting the St Mary-born Miller was a choir comprising members of the Black Heroes in the Hall of Fame musical, which played to appreciative audiences in the UK and United States during the 1990s. Miller played Marcus Garvey in the long-running stage production.

Miller was best known to Jamaicans for the robust 1971 hit song Mule Train. He is survived by his son, Jean-Pierre.
