C-TOC arrest four for selling drugs without prescriptions
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Detectives from the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) today arrested the owner, a pharmacist and two employees of a popular pharmacy in downtown Kingston.
The four, who were arrested for breaches of the Pharmacy Act, are expected to be charged for selling drugs without prescription.
Reports from the police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that C-TOC officers along with the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica visited the location at 1:00 pm and observed the irregularities in how drugs were being sold.
The four were taken into custody in connection to the alleged improprieties.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Victor Barrett has since issued a warning to members of the public to, “…be careful when purchasing pharmaceuticals and desist from buying tablets that require a prescription over the counter.”
The C-TOC says it is now moving to have pharmacies comply with the regulations stipulated by the Pharmacy Act and is encouraging members of the public to share information by contacting 876-809-1706 about any impropriety.
