A 90th-minute goal by Stanford Davy earned home team Mona High a 1-1 draw with Calabar High in their ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup game yesterday, which consolidated their second-place grip on Group B.

Dijon Grant gave the visiting Calabar High a 53rd-minute lead heading home after a series of aerial raids, and at that stage the three points looked safe in the bag.

But Davy would send the Mona fans into delirium firing home in the 90th minute for a share of the points, and more importantly, kept their three-point advantage ahead of Calabar with three sets of games remaining.

Leaders Kingston College yesterday trounced Dunoon Technical 5-0 and jumped to maximum 21 points from seven games. Mona are on 16 points, while Calabar are third on 13 points.

Mona High coach Alexander Morgan was happy for the point as the team remains on course for the second round, having defeated Calabar 1-0 in the first round.

“It was a different Calabar this time around. It was a hard-fought game, but we knew we would get back the one (goal) and we went all-out to get the final goal, but it didn’t work so we settle for the draw,” said Morgan.

Calabar coach David Lalor was clearly not pleased as he thought his team should have put away the game from early.

“This is definitely not the result we wanted. The number of opportunities that we got we just never took them, and in the end, this is the result,” Lalor noted.

Meanwhile, defending champion Jamaica College qualified for the second round following their 3-0 Group G win over Vauxhall High which moved them to 19 points from seven games. Vauxhall remained in third on nine points, and with three games remaining, cannot overhaul the champions.

Hydel High also moved closer to the next round with a 1-0 win over Kingston Technical High School (KTHS) and consolidated second spot with 16 points. KTHS stayed fourth spot on eight points.

Former champions St George’s College swamped Cedar Grove High 9-0 and opened up a four-point lead atop Group A with 19 points. Second-placed St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) could only muster a 0-0 draw with Papine High and inched to 15 points. Cumberland High moved to third with 11 points following their 2-0 win over Tarrant High.

Camperdown High also booked their spot in the next round with a 4-1 whipping of Meadowbrook High, and moved to 22 points, five ahead of Charlie Smith.

The Group E match between St Mary’s College and St Catherine High was called off because of persistent rain and lightning.
