JPS employee among four arrested in connection with fuel theft
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Jamaica Public Service (JPS) employee is among four individuals arrested on Sunday night in connection with the illegal removal of fuel from the company’s Hunts Bay Power Station.
According to JPS, the arrest follows weeks of surveillance by its security department and the police. The four are scheduled to appear in court this week to answer to the charges.
In the meantime, the investigation into the alleged theft is continuing in an effort to identify other culprits, the power company says, adding that it has intensified its efforts to curtail illegal activity and has indicated a zero tolerance approach to internal corruption.
JPS has not named the four accused individuals.
The company is encouraging members of the public to report any illegal activity involving JPS property, by calling 888-CALLJPS, or by emailing calljps@jpsco.com. All reports are treated confidentially.
