LONG before her debut four years ago, reggae/R&B singjay Lyrae Jojo harboured intentions of becoming a household name. She feels her latest single, I Like It, will do the job.

“It’s really about a girl seeing a guy and making an instant connection with him… Females can relate to it. The feedback has been pretty good, so far. The beat is catchy and a lot of people have connect to the lyrics,” the New York-based artiste told the Jamaica Observer.

Penned by the singjay, I Like It was released on October 1. Artifaxx Production in tandem with Monopoly House, shares production credits.

Lyrae Jojo is ramping up the single’s promotion using tools available at her disposal.

“Social media is very effective in getting the word out there. Every day I post using Instagram, and then there is YouTube and Facebook. And there’s also the good old word of mouth,” she said. “I just want the song to pretty much reach as far as it can; I want it to be played everywhere so everyone can hear it and appreciate it.”

The singer is confident her musical versatility and writing ability will set apart from the competition.

“I started off singing reggae and switched to R&B to give me an edge. So I have both sides of the field,” she said.

Born in Lawrence Tavern in St Andrew, Lyrae Jojo (given name Jody-Ann Reynolds) grew up in the church. Her parents were heavily involved in the church’s choir and this had a lasting impact.

“Music, singing and writing became a passion for me,” said the graduate of Oberlin High School.

Lyrae Jojo migrated to the United States in 2004, where she continued pursing her passion.

She got her break in 2014 when she recorded Dreaming of You. She has since followed up with Nah Left.

Currently in the first year of a bachelor’s degree in business management at the University of Phoenix, Lyrae Jojo said she intends to release an eight-track EP in January.

“I hope to bring more positivity to the music scene and hope to sing some music that will last the test of time,” she said.
