HELD! – TG, H’View unhappy to split points

Neither coaching staff was entirely satisfied after Tivoli Gardens FC and Harbour View FC battled to a 1-1 result in yesterday’s Red Stripe Premier League match at Edward Seaga Sports Complex.

Tivoli’s Junior McGregor opened the scoring in the 37th minute, but Harbour View Captain Nicholas Beckett struck the equaliser from the penalty spot in the 45th.

Tivoli Gardens are second on 13 points from seven games, while Harbour View, who drop to last in the 12-team table with five points, remain one of two teams in the relegation zone.

Harbour View Head Coach Ricardo Gardner welcomed the point, but was not pleased with aspects of his team’s play.

“We didn’t play up to scratch, but Tivoli is always a difficult place to come. Even though I would have loved all three points, I’m happy to go away with one point,” he told reporters in a post-match interview.

“We have to learn how to concentrate throughout an entire game. If you look at the goals we conceded it’s just lack of concentration. I’m yet to see a team outplay us and we concede goals without making mistakes.”

Gardner added that he is not yet too concerned about the former champions’ position in the table.

“It’s still early days and we still believe and we just have to continue to work. We just have to learn to concentrate because you can win or lose a football game in a split second,” he said.

Kevan Wisdom, assistant coach of Tivoli Gardens, was left disappointed due to missed opportunities, but encouraged that at least they were creating chances to score.

“We are not totally satisfied with getting a point here [because] we should have wrapped up the game from the first half from the chances that we created.

“We didn’t allow Harbour View to play their normal possession game, and another plus for us is the chances [created], but we have to work on putting those away,” Wisdom told the Jamaica Observer.

There was concern in the Tivoli Gardens camp yesterday evening when Colorado Murray sustained a head injury late in the game. Word from the management team was that he was to be taken to the hospital after complaining of dizziness.

Teams: Tivoli Gardens — Davion Watkins, Barrington Pryce, Tevin Shaw, Kemar Seivwright, Hugh Evans, Ezran Simpson, Junior McGregor (Mitchily Waul 78th), Marvin Stewart, Howard Morris (Shaquille Jones 78th), Colorado Murray, Michael Spence (Andre Moulton 56th)

Subs not used: Nicholas Clarke, Arthur Walters, Tkevin Garnett, Davion Goulbourne
