Living Dangerously heads to Connecticut
Jamaicans and Caribbean nationals residing in Connecticut will tonight be enjoying some laughter, courtesy of the Jamaican play Living Dangerously. There will be three showings at the Kings Chapel Church of God Banquet Hall in Hartford.
According to Lindel Douglas, CEO of the Caribbean Village Festival and chairman of the Galleon Foundation, the event will not only serve as a fundraiser for the foundation, but it’s a way of bringing the culture to the diaspora.
“This will actually be a fundraiser to support the foundation’s mission and we also wanted to bring the Jamaican culture to the Diaspora. The purpose is to create more events around the Caribbean Village Festival which is held each year during Caribbean American Heritage Month,” Douglas told the Jamaica Observer.
“Agreeing to promote this play was easy. Attaching both of our brands to a well-written and amusing play was a no-brainer for us. The audience will feel connected to their roots, taking them back home to highlight all the fun, joy and sometimes dark moments.”
Living Dangerously stars comedian Trudy Bell, who is best known for playing the role of Melcita in the Joint Tennant television series; Clive Duncan; Dennis Hall; Marsha Campbell; Georgina Johnson-Jones; Sonia Bell-Walter and Omaro Mazlyn. The play tackles issues, including domestic violence, human and sex trafficking, in Jamaica.
The Galleon Foundation is a non-profit organisation, established in 2010, focusing on the Caribbean-Diaspora. Each year the Galleon Foundation gives scholarships to students in the United States, and the Caribbean through fundraising events throughout the year. Their goal is to continue raising funds to provide scholarships with the help of continuous support from donors/sponsors, and volunteers.
