Old Harbour ‘pops’ style
A full house turned up for the St Catherine staging of Campari Pop Style series at the East Street Bus Park in Old Harbour last Saturday.
A plethora of stylish partygoers came out in droves to claim the title and a $100,000 in cash. However, it was Mikayla Salmon and Jovanni Lancaster who emerged the winners of the night.
Salmon and Lancaster were selected among eight stylish competitors by resident judges of the series, Tony Krash (Campari Pop Style’s Most Stylish Male of 2017) and Ravers Clavers dancer, Desha Ravers. Joining the judging panel was Tanaania Tracey, owner of Shop Necessits.
After the shouts had subsided, the crowd’s favourites took their winning walk under the stage lights, expertly guided by the vibrant and fashionable host of the series, the Fluffy Diva, Miss Kitty.
Salmon came fully prepared in self-made pieces comprising a multi-striped tunic cinched with a neon green high-waisted belt, fishnet stockings beneath neon green garter suspenders, accessorised with matching French-inspired headwear and a bedazzled mini trunk handbag.
Drawing inspiration from Eddie Murphy’s movie, Coming to America, Lancaster rocked a golden crown, a floral black-and-white shirt matching the lining of his black blazer, which was draped with a furry companion reminiscent of the inspiration behind his look. Fur-lined slip-on loafers and a fanny pack completed his $100,000 outfit. He was clearly the crowd’s favourite as he showed off his ensemble, centre stage.
Marketing manager at J Wray and Nephew Limited, Nadia Kiffin-Green, was pleased with the evening.
“It was a night of traffic-blocking fashion! East Street Bus Park was filled to capacity and everyone really had a great time. The men went toe-to-toe with the women with their outfits and we saw a myriad of unique fits and fashion trends,” she said. “The winners really put thought into their ensembles and earned that $100,000. I can’t wait to see what all the finalists bring to Campari Pop Style on December 1.”
The grand finale staging of Campari Pop Style will be held at Skateland, Half-Way-Tree in Kingston on Saturday, December 1. The six winners from the three regional Campari Pop Style parties (Kingston, St Elizabeth and St Catherine) will go up against the two most stylish found at the finals, in addition to two wildcards from the previous events, chosen by the resident judges. The 10 contestants must go fit-for-fit for the chance to emerge Jamaica’s Most Stylish Male or Female for the grand prize of $250,000.
