Cornwall defeat JC 1-0 to win Champions Cup
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The third time was the charm as Cornwall College won a historic first ISSA Champions Cup all-island knockout title beating former champions Jamaica College 1-0 in the final played at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Saturday.
It was the third straight year that a rural team had played the Champions Cup final but Cornwall College failed in 2016 and St Elizabeth Technical last year.
Shavon McDonald, the Cornwall College captain, led from the front, scoring the winning goal, in the 19th minute in the first Champions Cup final played outside of Kingston.
Cornwall College took the brand new trophy and the $1million first prize while McDonald also picked up awards for player of the game and player of the tournament.
In front of a packed Montego Bay Sports Complex, both teams entertained with free flowing attacking football with Jamaica College coming close several times as Calwayne Allen hit the Cornwall College woodwork three times in the game.
