THIS evening, 876 Terrace Bar and Grill in St Andrew is slated to be transformed into the global dance central with the inaugural staging of Red Bull Dance Your Style.

The event, Mojito Mondays — which is free to the public, is slated to begin at 10:00 pm.

Red Bull Dance Your Style has been scheduled for 16 countries, including South Africa (November 30) and Chile (December 1).

“Dancers from every style are welcome to come and showcase their unique expression of the street dance style they practise. It’s all about vibing and having fun without the pressure of judging panels or strict style formats,” said a release on the Red Bull website.

“The crowd will also play an important role in the outcome of each battle. Red Bull Dance Your Style won’t have a panel of dancers judging and voting for a winner — unlike most street dance competitions. Instead, the winner of each battle will be decided on a crowd vote. ‘Dance Your Style’ is about performance and dancer showmanship first, ahead of judging on the more technical aspects of a style. By allowing the crowd to be the judges, dancers will be free to really express their personality and character, as in the end the dancer who wins will be the one who can win over the crowd with their performance and individuality,” it continued.

The Red Bull Dance Your Style competition itself will be a mixed, all-style, solo (one-on-one) battle in which dancers from any street style discipline can enter. This open entry, all-styles format means that each battle will be an exchange of the diverse and different number of styles that exist in street dance.

The DJs will be randomly selecting different genres to test the dancer’s ability to perform and adapt their dance styles to various rhythm.
