Defending champions fail to advance in ISSA rural junior football
KINGSTON, Jamaica — New champions will be crowned this year in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (
ISSA) Rural Junior football competition after two time Under-14 champions Cornwall College and Under-16 champions Munro College failed to make it into the quarterfinals that gets underway today with seven games across both competitions.
Cornwall College, the all-island Under-14 champions two years ago, were runners up in their second round group to William Knibb Memorial, ending their two-year run as champions.
Meanwhile, St Elizabeth Technical and Garvey Maceo have qualified for the quarterfinals in both age groups.
The quarterfinals will get underway with seven games today with an Under-16 game set for Friday to accommodate a play-off between Bog Walk High and Fair Prospect High.
The winner of the play-off will take on Seaforth High on Friday.
Today, St Elizabeth Technical will host a double header, playing William Knibb Memorial in the Under-14 and then Cornwall College in the Under-16 competition.
Spalding High will host Garvey Maceo High, Munro College hosts Irwin High and Vere Technical and Happy Grove will play each other, in the Under-14.
In the Under-16, York Castle will take on Muschett High in one game while Edwin Allen and Garvey Maceo will meet in the other game.
