TUCKER, St James — Montego Bay United extended their unbeaten run to four games after playing out a 0-0 draw against Tivoli Gardens in their second-round Red Stripe Premier League game at Wespow Park on Sunday.

It was the second straight draw under new coach Dillon Thelwell, who replaced recently dismissed Vassell Reynolds as Montego Bay United (MBU) remained in ninth position on 16 points. Tivoli Gardens, meantime, also remained in sixth place on 21 points.

Thelwell, who also served as an assistant previously, said despite being happy with the performance of the team he felt they dropped two points.

“Based on how we played today, we created a lot of scoring chances, so we dropped points,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

“We started flat, but picked it up and dominated the final 30 minutes of the first half and it was all MBU in the second half, just unfortunate we did not get the goal today,” Thelwell added.

The biggest letdown, he said, was that the team was not “good enough in front of goal, the decision making needs some work, we were not sure when to shoot or pass”.

Kevon Wisdom, the Tivoli Gardens assistant coach, said his team was satisfied with the away point.

“It’s a positive result for us, we came here with the intention that if we did not get a win we would take a point… it was a fairly balanced game, both teams gave it their best, (but) we had our chances in the last few minutes (when) we were on the front ,” he said.

MBU had two good scoring chances in the first half with forward Jourdaine Fletcher being involved in both; his cross from the left flank in the 16th minute fell nicely for Jermaine Woozencroft, who waited a beat or two too long and missed the opportunity to test goalkeeper Nicholas Clarke.

In the 23rd minute, Fletcher was on the end of a pass into the 18-yard box, but his hesitation allowed defender Tkiven Garnett to get back and clear the ball away.

Both teams got good scoring chances late in the game as they went after the full points.

Fletcher’s drive from close range was blocked in the 76th minute, and a minute later, Clarks knocked down a drive from Dwayne Ambusley taken from about 25 yards, then gathered it on a second attempt.

Tivoli Gardens’ first real threat to the MBU goal came in the 83rd minute when Colorado Murray’s shot from just inside the six-yard box on the right side was blocked at the near post.

Three minutes later the MBU goalkeeper Aian Miller made a fine save tipping a drive from the overlapping Kemar Seivwright overt the bar as the ball appeared to be dipping just under the cross bar.

Fletcher had the final chance to give his team all three points in the 88th minute but after getting around Clarke opted to shoot, hitting the side netting with at least two teammates well placed to get a better quality shot at a wide open goal.
