TRAINER Fitzroy Glispie closed the 10-race card at Caymanas Park on Saturday, January 5, with the 4-1 shot Pakman to start his winning account in 2019.

After his first win of the season, Glispie shared that his prospects for a productive 2019 will depend on the level of racing material available to work with later down in the year.

“I did very well last season with the few runners that I had and I am happy but this season, I have less horses. However, later down in the year I will have some more horses at my disposal. Despite this, I am comfortable, for once I get the horses, I will get them to run,” Glispie told The Supreme Racing Guide.

Pakman, a bay five-year-old horse by Taqarub out of the Sir Lal Bahadur mare Lady Jagrati, owned by Ainsworth Clarke and ridden by 4kg claiming apprentice Reyan Lewis, got an ideal distance of 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m) to land the gamble by two lengths in a competitive time of 1:19.1 in the three-year-old and upward Overnight Allowance event for non-winners of an Overnight Allowance race.

Pakman, who was always prominent throughout the race, picked up the lead at the top of the lane and never looked back. Lewis kept up his work and Pakman powered home to score easily in the end.

Drummer Boy, the 9/5 favourite, ridden by Omar Walker finished second with the 56-1 chance Twilight Dream, Roger Hewitt up, finishing third in the field of 12 runners.
