Jahman revs up promotion in Ja
US Virgin Islands’ reggae artiste Jahman was recently in the island promoting his Billboard -charting album Altitude .
John “Jon FX” Crawford produced most of the tracks and has also produced albums and songs by Sizzla, Ky-Mani Marley and rapper XXXTentacion.
Jahman, who has been to the island several times, expressed pleasure with the reception to his work.
“I had a great time. Jamaica is truly a wonderful place. Music, fun and sun. Great people,” he said.
Even though he did promotions at various electronic media entities, Jahman also used the opportunity to shoot a music video. He also performed at the Portmore Music Festival.
“We originally set out to perform at the Portmore Music Fest, but I also did some interviews, shoot a music video and promoted my album. I achieved a lot and much more,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
He also attended the Rebel Salute media launch, and visited picturesque places, including the Blue Mountain. Spending time in Trench Town networking with residents and greeting residents was also on his agenda.
Jahman related the experience while shooting the video for Erbs in Trench Town.
“When we were shooting some performance scenes for the music video Erbs, I was very elated to not only see people dancing but dancing genuinely to the feel and the vibes of the song. One elder told me after listening to the song he said reasoning with me has the same vibes that the music carried. I was happy to hear that.”
It was his sixth visit in the island.
“Jamaica has been good to me then and good to me now. One love, one people. Much love goes out to my homeland St Thomas, US Virgin Island, which has nurtured me into who I am today,” he said.
Jahman, whose real name is Jabari Carrington, has been performing for a while. However, Altitude (2018) gave him the much needed boost.
“To keep on creating good music that the whole world will enjoy and with a focus in making sure that the music that we create is not monotonous, making sure it’s vibrant. It’s sensual and definitely something for the ears that will stand the test of time and that is very important,” he said.
Altitude, according to him, is an organic blend of social and conscious songs mixed with matters of the heart. Among its tracks are Call on Jah Mercy, Time to Show, Sometimes, This Girl, Unconquerable, Herbs, Scream and Shout, Control, One Day and Journey. The title track features singer Ann Marie.
